Summers generally die long and hard here. It was just a mere three weeks back that temps were still dawdling in the low 90s. Winter has made a persuasive comeback with a blast of very cold arctic air this week. Of course it will get warm-ish again with some plants blooming well into December but the blazing heat is a ghost until next year. Until then, I will look back fondly on my Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia pulcherrima) flowering wildly in the yard this summer.

“In the early 1960s, developer Raymond Nasher leased a 97-acre cotton field on the edge of Dallas and hired E.G Hamilton of Harrell+Hamilton Architects. NorthPark Center opened in 1965, as then the largest climate-controlled retail establishment in the world, and is now owned by the Caruth family and managed, operated and leased by husband and wife David J. Haemisegger and Nancy A. Nasher (Ray's daughter).”
